​Auster and his brother, Zephyros, have been dealt a rough hand from a young age. Whether it’s the result of a curse brought down upon them from Poseidon himself, one of the many other deities that watch over the United Territories, or just sheer bad luck, Auster isn’t sure.
But Auster’s time in the orphanage is running short. Fortunately, opportunity knocks at just the right time as a mysterious stranger blows into town. Auster and his best friend, Marinus, travel to the unruly Heliodor Plains with the scholar Eurus to assist him at the National Exposition, a grand fair celebrating the god Poseidon.

Unfortunately, Auster is unable to avoid trouble for long. He finds himself caught up in Marshal Aquilo’s pursuit of the outlaw Jason and his gang, the Argonauts: train robbers, murderers, and thieves. When the Argonauts steal the Golden Fleece from the Expo’s artifact display, Auster ends up accused of the theft. In order to keep himself out of jail, he makes a deal with Marshal Aquilo: Auster will find the Argonaut’s hideout and help bring Jason to justice in exchange for his freedom. Along the way, he may just discover the key to his heritage and how to stay on the right side of the law.

When Iris's brother runs off to join the Queen's Cavalry, she has to take his place, providing for the family as a stable hand. As she grows and bonds with the horses, her skills improve. But one day, her brother doesn't return for the fall parade with the Cavalry. When she is offered a position in the Cavalry herself, she takes it, hoping to discover what happened to Whitley and become what her brother was unable to be for her family.
